 | Born in 1970 in Albi, France After a long stay abroad (Germany and U.S.A.), she now lives and works in Marseille. Trained as a textile print designer at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art in Paris, Cécile de Carvalho designed textile mock-ups for furnishings, household linen, wallpaper and carpets for the textile industry. For five years, she visited several arts schools in the US (Art Center in Pasadena and Barnsdall Art Park in Los Angeles) and started to exhibit her work. Her first paintings featured Californian landscapes in coloured pigments. She stages her imagination with reality. Forms are created in cut-out pieces of coloured paper. Her work is a game of collage, confronting the forms and tones of what is visible on top and what is suggested underneath.
